Kaden Longman’s late interception lifts Newcastle past Pryor into the 5A soccer semifinals

NEWCASTLE – Here are three takeaways from Class 5A No. 6 Newcastle’s 38-37 win over third-ranked Pryor in the quarterfinals of the Oklahoma high school football playoffs on Friday night.

Newcastle 38, Pryor 37

Player of the game: Kaden Longman. The Racers’ junior receiver caught six passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns to help Newcastle to its first state semifinal in Class 5A. Longman also produced an interception on defense while recording multiple tackles and a pass breakup in the secondary.

Key moment: As Pryor marched down the field looking for a late lead, Longman intercepted a pass from Tigers quarterback Braden Ward and returned the ball 30 yards into positive territory. The interception sealed the victory for Newcastle as they ran out the clock for the win in the remaining seconds.

Read option: Pryor junior quarterback Braden Ward was stellar Friday night, completing 23 of his 35 passes for 400 yards and four touchdowns through the air. He also produced tremendously on the ground, with 14 carries for 56 yards and an additional score.
