Kamala Harris Enlists Molly Shannon to Revive ‘SNL’ Character Mary Katherine Gallagher for Al Smith Dinner Video

Kamala Harris was not present tonight at the Al Smith Dinner in New York, a traditional election in which the presidential candidates roast each other and themselves.

Instead, Harris enlisted Molly Shannon to revive her character of Catholic schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher, a nod to the dinner benefit that raised money for the Al Smith Foundation. Smith was the first Catholic presidential candidate in 1928.

“Is there anything you don’t think I should bring up tonight?” Harris asked in the video.

“Well, don’t lie. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor,” Shannon said as Gallagher.

“Well, mostly your neighbor’s election results,” Harris replied.

At another point, Gallagher told Harris not to “say anything negative about Catholics.”

“No matter where I was, I would never do that. That would be like criticizing Detroit, in Detroit,” Harris said in another criticism of Trump.

Harris then turned serious, saying the dinner provided a “rare opportunity to put partisanship aside.”

Trump personally attended the event and attacked Harris for failing to do so.

Trump wrote: “I just found out that Lyin’ Kamala is doing a video message tonight instead of being at the Al Smith Dinner. She shouldn’t be doing a video message. Kamala should be there, as should almost every other presidential candidate in their history, except Walter Mondale, who lost 49-1. They didn’t give me the option of a video message, and I wouldn’t have done that either. This is very disrespectful to everyone involved. She should be here or she will lose the Catholic vote!”

Jim Gaffigan, who plays Tim Walz Saturday evening live organizing the dinner event this season. Also among those present were Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Attorney General Letitia James, who filed a lawsuit against Trump and his companies.
