Kansas State Football 2024: Game 2 at Tulane

Despite a lackluster start, your Kansas State Wildcats came out firing after the break, winning 41-6 to open the 2024 football season. Now it’s time for the Wildcats to turn their attention back to FBS football and the first road trip of the season.

K-State is in the Big Easy today, ready to take on a team that beat the Wildcats at home in 2022 — Tulane. That 2022 season ended well for both programs — the Wildcats with a Big 12 Championship and a trip to the Sugar Bowl, and the Green Wave with a win over USC in the Cotton Bowl — but the Wildcats were absolutely shocked in mid-September by a 17-10 loss to the visitors. It was an ugly game, and the Cats never seemed to get out of their own way on offense.

But these Wildcats are a different bunch. New offensive coordinator, different (allegedly improved) weapons on offense, and hopefully a healthy respect for a Tulane who doesn’t shy away from a challenge.

The Green Wave is also considerably different. After two 11+ win seasons, Willie Fritz left New Orleans for Houston and the university that bears the city’s name. But in his place steps Jon Sumrall, who quickly returned Troy to respectability with back-to-back 11+ win seasons and Sun Belt conference titles in his only two seasons leading the Trojans.

Tulane opened its 2024 season with a dominant 52-0 win over FCS Southeastern Louisiana at home on Thursday. But fear not, Wildcat fans. You may recall that Sumrall took his Trojans to Manhattan last year, returning to Alabama after a 42-13 drubbing at the hands of the Wildcats.

So the Wildcats know how to beat Sumrall, they know they can’t overlook Tulane. It’s been a long wait, two years. Let’s hope the Wildcats are ready to get revenge.

Today’s game starts at 11:00 a.m. CT from Yulman Stadium in New Orleans. You can watch the game on ESPN (or online at WatchESPN) with Bob Wischusen (Play-by-Play), Louis Riddick (Analyst) and Kris Budden (Sidelines) on the broadcast.

If you don’t have ESPN or access to the stream, you can tune in to the game on the 28-station K-State Sports Network with Wyatt Thompson (play-by-play), former K-State quarterback Stan Weber (analyst) and Matt Walters (sideline) calling the action. The game will also be available on SiriusXM Satellite Radio Ch. 159 or 199 and online at K-Statesports.com.
