The Kansas State football team has a chance to build on last week’s road success and keep pace with Big 12 leaders Brigham Young, Iowa State and Texas Tech on Saturday with a trip to the Eastern Time Zone.

The No. 17 Wildcats (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) travel to Morgantown to take on West Virginia (3-3, 2-1) in a nationally televised night game at Milan Puskar Stadium after losing had rallied to beat Colorado last week, 31-28.

Should they beat West Virginia, which suffered its first conference loss at home last week against Iowa (28-16), it would give the Wildcats back-to-back road wins for the first time since 2022.

K-State running back DJ Giddens leads the Big 12 in rushing with 786 yards, while West Virginia splits its yards among three backs: running back Jahiem White (398), quarterback Garrett Greene (382) and running back CJ Donaldson (378). Wildcat quarterback Avery Johnson has completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,103 yards and 11 touchdowns, while Greene has thrown 1,267 and eight scores with 57.3% accuracy.

After stopping West Virginia on fourth down, K-State takes a knee to take the lead into halftime.

West Virginia goes for it on fourth down at the K-State 5, but Garrett Greene’s pass is incomplete and the Wildcats maintain their 17-10 lead.

West Virginia drives 70 yards in 13 plays, taking 6:29 off the clock to get within 17-10 on a 7-yard Garrett Greene-to-Hudson Clement touchdown pass with 6:38 left in the half.

Kansas State shoots on third down and forces Garrett Greene to rush, leading to a Marques Sigle interception and a 43-yard return for a touchdown.

West Virginia answered Kansas State’s field goal with a goal of its own, as Michael Hayes drilled one home from 44 yards (the same distance as the Wildcats’) to tie the game at 3-3 with 52 seconds left in the first quarter .

The scoring drive was six plays, 49 yards, 2:11.

K-State’s drive stalled at the West Virginia 26-yard line, but Chris Tennant managed to sneak his 44-yard field goal attempt inside the right upright to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead with 3:03 left in the opening quarter . .

The Wildcats’ drive, following a Jack Fabris interception, covered 37 yards in 10 plays and took 5:16 off the clock.

West Virginia wins the coin toss and takes the ball to start the game, meaning K-State will get the ball to start the second half.

The weather shouldn’t be an issue tonight, with a game temperature of 63 degrees under clear skies and no wind. By the end of the game, temperatures should drop to the mid-50s.

According to a report on the Kansas State radio network, K-State has started the right offensive tackle. Carver Willis did not make the trip to Morgantown and will not play tonight. Junior Andrew Leingang, who primarily served as a backup right and left guard, will likely take Willis’ spot, while sophomore John Pastore also expects to see action.

Tight end Brayden Loftin still hasn’t recovered from a leg injury that kept him out of the last two games.
