Kendrick Lamar discusses the Super Bowl halftime controversy

Kendrick Lamar has released a surprise album, ‘GNX,’ and it sees him address the controversy that followed after he was announced as the headliner of the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show.

“I used to run into ‘Tha Carter III’, I held my Rollie chain proudly. Irony, I guess my hard work let Lil Wayne down,” Lamar raps on his intro track, “made murals.” The Pulitzer Prize-winning hip-hop megastar released the 12-track album on Friday afternoon.

Then in another line he says, “Won the Super Bowl and Nas is the only one congratulating me/ All these (expletives) excited/ I’m just glad it’s on their faces/Honestly, plenty of artists, but they’re outdated / Old (expletive) flows trying to convince me you’re their favorite.

His words come in response to the drama that ensued in the hip-hop/rap community after the NFL and Lamar shared that he would take the stage as a headliner, a no-brainer considering Lamar’s hit “Not Like Us” – the latest blow from the rapper on Drake during their recent beef – captivated the world over the summer.

While many were overjoyed by the decision, several musicians felt it was a slight to New Orleans rap legend Lil Wayne, who previously expressed a desire to perform at the big game in his hometown. Super Bowl LIX takes place in New Orleans

In September, Lil Wayne said he was disappointed he didn’t get the job.

“Forgive me for the delay… First of all, I had to gain strength. I had to gain strength enough to do this without breaking,” Wayne said in an Instagram video at the time. “I thought there was nothing better than that place, that platform in my city, so that hurt. It hurt a lot.”

In addition to talking about upsetting Lil Wayne, Lamar also reiterated his feud with Drake by sharing one of his songs “heart pt. 6”, which continues his “heart series”. The new song’s title references Drake’s use of Lamar’s series when he criticized the Compton rapper on his “The Heart Part 6.”

Lamar released “Not Like Us” on May 4 this year, and as soon as it hit the airwaves, it sparked a movement in Los Angeles, with Angelenos showing pride and celebrating their city’s culture.
