Kentucky Volleyball is rising in the rankings amid a tough schedule

The Kentucky women’s volleyball team is currently on a remarkable run of success in SEC play, winning seven consecutive matches, often in dominating 3-0 sets. Their strategic approach included facing some of the toughest teams nationally to start the season, including games against ranked opponents such as Nebraska and Louisville. As a result, despite having the most losses among the top 15 teams, they have risen to #13 in the DI NCAA AVCA rankings and #10 in the RPI standings. With SEC matchups against teams like Georgia and Arkansas on the horizon, the Wildcats are primed for a potentially strong finish to the season. They are aiming for a repeat of their 2020 championship and are also building for the future with three top recruits committed for 2025.

By the numbers

  • The Wildcats have won seven straight games in SEC play.
  • The team has not lost a set since beating Tennessee 3-1.
  • Kentucky is currently ranked No. 13 in the DI NCAA AVCA rankings and No. 10 in RPI.

State of affairs

  • The team is preparing for upcoming SEC games against Georgia, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Missouri.
  • Kentucky’s current record stands at 16-7 overall and 9-2 in SEC play.

What’s next

With strong performances coming up against lower-ranked SEC teams, the Wildcats are expected to aim for a possible sweep, which could lead them to a final record of 20-7 and a top spot in the conference standings secure.

In short

Kentucky’s hard-hitting preseason strategy has proven effective, positioning them strongly for the SEC title and improving their postseason prospects, while at the same time cementing their future with a promising recruiting class.
