Kolkata rape-murder: Lie detector tests underway on Sanjoy Roy, 6 others; Sandip Ghosh at CBI office | 5 Points | Latest News India

Sandip Ghosh arrived at the CBI Special Crime Branch at the Central Government Offices (CGO) complex in Salt Lake City, Kolkata.

The polygraph tests or lie detector tests on the main accused, Sanjoy Roy, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh and five others in the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor at the state healthcare institution, began on Saturday, August 24.

Meanwhile, Sandip Ghosh arrived at the CBI Special Crime Branch at the Central Government Offices (CGO) complex in Salt Lake City in Kolkata on Saturday.

Kolkata Police said all documents relating to the alleged financial irregularities in RG Kar have been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation by SIT, as per the Calcutta High Court order.

Last week, the Calcutta High Court transferred the probe into the financial irregularities involving Sandip Ghosh, which was earlier being conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), to the CBI.

Kolkata doctor rape and murder case: Key updates

  1. The polygraph test on Sanjay Roy will be conducted at the jail where he is lodged, while the remaining six persons, including former director Sandip Ghosh and four doctors who were on duty on the night of the incident and a civilian volunteer, will undergo the test at the agency’s office, officials were quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
  2. The Calcutta High Court has allowed the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on Sandip Ghosh and five others involved in the incident.
  3. A team of polygraph specialists from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi has been flown to Kolkata to conduct these tests, officials said.
  4. The CBI told the Supreme Court on Thursday that there was an attempt to cover up the rape and murder of the medical graduate by local police as the crime scene was altered before the federal agency took over the investigation.
  5. Akhtar Ali, the former deputy director of the hospital, had filed a petition accusing Sandip Ghosh of financial misconduct and unethical practices. The Supreme Court has given the CBI three weeks’ time to submit a progress report on the investigation, which is to be submitted on September 17.
