Seattle, Washington – The Seattle Kraken opened their six-game homestand on Friday night, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights in a thrilling comeback 4-3 overtime at Climate Pledge Arena. Breaking the Kraken’s three-game losing streak. Friday’s game was the first of three meetings between the two clubs and the only meeting in Seattle.

The mood on the floor was hopeful as the news entered the first period that the Kraken acquired former forward Daniel Sprong from the Vancouver Canucks.

The Knights broke the ice first with a pair of goals from Pavel Dorofeyev and Nicholas Roy, but Brandon Tanev added two straight goals. It would mark his eighth career game with two or more goals.

Oliver Bjorkstrand (who had a healthy clean sheet in the final game of the road trip on Tuesday) scored the tiebreaker in the third period.

With 82 seconds left and Vegas goalie Aiden Hill pulling, defenseman Alex Pietrangelo tied the game with a shot that deflected off Adam Larsson’s skate, sending the puck past Joey Daccord and forcing overtime.

Jared McCann’s overtime winner was his second as a Kraken and fourth of his career, giving him the second-most overtime wins in franchise history behind Jordan Eberle’s three.

Joey Daccord’s impressive block stopped a great breakaway from William Karlsson and earned him the third star of the match. Daccord is now 2-1-0 with a 2.33 GAA, .927 SV% and one shutout in three career appearances against the Golden Knights.

The Kraken return to Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday for the annual Super Skills Showcase and host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.
