Kylian Mbappe drew another clean sheet as Real Madrid got their LaLiga title defence underway with a late 3-0 win over Real Valladolid.

The French superstar, who failed to score in his competitive debut in last week’s 1-1 draw against Real Mallorca, failed to score again and it was Carlo Ancelotti’s substitutes who dashed Valladolid’s hopes of a draw.

Federico Valverde broke the deadlock at the Bernabeu five minutes after the break, but it took late goals from Brahim Diaz and Mbappe’s 86th-minute substitute Endrick – his first for the club – to send Madrid to victory.

Emmanuel Gyasi and a penalty from Lorenzo Colombo gave Empoli a fine 2-1 victory over Roma, despite a late consolation goal from substitute Eldor Shomurodov.

Scottish striker Che Adams’ first goal for Torino was enough to secure a 2-1 victory over Atalanta in the Champions League.

Mateo Retegui had put the visitors ahead, but Ivan Ilic’s first-half equaliser ensured Adams took the points four minutes after the break.

Meanwhile, Venice secured their first point since promotion after a 0-0 draw at Fiorentina.

Mason Greenwood’s third goal for Marseille salvaged a point from a 2-2 Ligue 1 draw against Reims.

Thanks to an own goal from Julien Le Cardinal, Lens were able to continue their perfect start to the season with a 2-0 home win over Brest, last season’s surprise.

Promoted Auxerre were left reeling as they lost 2-0 at Nantes and had striker Ado Onaiwu sent off.

Goals from Andrey Santos and Emanuel Emegha and an own goal from Christopher Wooh gave Strasbourg a 3-1 home win over Rennes, while Shavy Babicka helped Toulouse to a second straight draw with a 73rd minute goal in the 1-1 draw at Nice.
