On five solo albums, Lady Gaga longed and yearned for a man worthy of her adoration. Most came and went, including her previous engagements to actor Taylor Kinney in 2015 and talent agent Christian Carino in 2018. But Gaga finally seems to have found her prince charming in an ultra-private Harvard graduate. In her latest Fashion profile, the singer spoke dreamily about fiancé Michael Polansky, confirming the pair got engaged in April after some rock climbing. “The missing piece in my life was having real love,” she said of her partner of nearly five years.

According to Gaga and Polansky’s story, they were introduced in 2019 by the singer’s mother, Cynthia Germanotta. Germanotta runs Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and was introduced to Polansky — a close associate of former Facebook president Sean Parker — through his philanthropic efforts. “My mom met him and she said to me, ‘I think I just met your husband,’ and I said, ‘I’m not ready to meet my husband!’ I never could have imagined that my mom … had found the most perfect person for me?” Gaga recalled. Their first meeting apparently took place at Parker’s 40th birthday party, where Stevie Nicks performed and Gaga and Polansky spoke for three hours. “I didn’t know much about her and honestly didn’t know what to expect,” Polansky said. “I was immediately struck by her warmth and her openness — she was so genuinely curious about what my life was like growing up in Minnesota.”

After meeting for the first time, the two played phone tag for weeks, went on one date, and fell in love just before COVID hit. The couple quarantined at Gaga’s Malibu home for a year, where they cemented their relationship by reading together, walking the neighborhood, and chatting over coffee. “It was really special,” Gaga said. “I’d been so focused on my career since I was a teenager. And the gift of that time was that I was able to focus completely on my relationship. I met a totally supportive, loving person who wanted to get to know me — outside of Lady Gaga.”

“I’d never met anyone like Michael before. He’s so smart and so kind. And his life and my life are very different. He’s a very private guy and he’s not with me for any reason other than we’re a good fit,” she continued. “But I think I want my fans to know that I’m just, I’m so happy. I’m healthy … I struggled for years, but everything started to change because I had a real friend who saw how I was unhappy and why. And he wasn’t afraid to really hold my hand and get to know me on a really deep level.”

Well, now I am totally and hopelessly invested in this love story. I hope they have many more hunting summers ahead of them. Congratulations to the happy couple!
