Lake effect snow warning issued in New York. How much snow will fall?

A significant lake effect snow event is expected to impact Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and southern Erie counties from 7 a.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a lake effect storm warning for those areas of New York. The warning applies from Friday morning to Monday morning.

How much snow is expected in New York State?

Forecasters predict several feet of snow in areas with the most persistent lake effect bands. Snowfall rates typically range from one to five inches per hour, with even higher rates possible at times.

Travels affected by storm in New York

The storm is likely to create hazardous travel conditions, making some roads virtually impassable. Drivers can expect significant disruptions, especially during the Friday commute.

The Weather Service forecast for Orchard Park calls for freezing temperatures in the upper 20s and a continued 43% chance of snow through Sunday evening. The wind is blowing from the west, but weak up to 13 km/h.

The AccuWeather forecast expects cold evening temperatures in the upper 20s with snow showers, but little accumulation. The forecast calls for wind gusts in excess of 30 km/h, which would have a greater effect on the game than the predicted rainfall during the match.
