Lakers fans are optimistic about the team’s win-loss record this season

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of NBA fans. Throughout the year we ask questions to the most connected members Los Angeles Lakers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly email surveys.

The Lakers may have the vast majority of the same personnel as last season, but the new year has brought optimism among fans based on the players’ general talk and the performance of the key rotation guys during training camp.

Before the season opener, we asked fans in our latest SB Nation Reacts poll how many wins the Lakers would finish the season with.

The results were interesting because the most voted win in total fans was 50-54 wins at 37%. Second place was 45-49 wins at 33% and third place was 40-44 wins at 16%.

Note that the least voted option was 55-plus wins at 14%; however, the image contains an error.

Through the opening week of the season, the Lakers are undefeated at 3-0. So it’s hard not to think highly of this team when they’ve played so well, beating three teams that were formidable Western Conference opponents last season: the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings.

In addition to better rotations and positive player reviews, JJ Redick’s use of AD as an attacking hub has unlocked his potential. He has scored more than 30 points in all three games this season and seems like an early MVP candidate.

It’s these kinds of improvements from within that, if the Lakers can hold on, will help them break the 50-win mark for the first time since the 2020 title year.

Last season, despite all the problems and frustrations of both fans and players, Los Angeles still won 47 games. It will be difficult to improve at all, especially without significant changes in an always-tough conference, but a three-game bump isn’t a ridiculous task to accomplish.

If they can continue to build on this great start and avoid any more significant injuries, the 55-win mark could even start to look realistic if they are still among the top four in the West come Christmas Day.

Before we get into that, though, there’s still a lot of work to do in the meantime. The Lakers are embarking on their first road trip and their first full month of basketball is approaching.

They obviously won’t go undefeated in all those games, but if they continue to play with the quality they’ve shown, they should still be on track for a 50+ win season.
