Larry Kudlow: RFK, Jr.’s logic was ‘hard-hitting’

RFK, Jr.’s endorsement of Donald Trump buried Kamala Harris’ speech last night at the DNC and that is the subject of the riff. Kamala Harris gave a fairly well-presented speech last night at the DNCbut of course it was full of platitudes and all sorts of lies about Donald Trump’s record. She worked overtime to hide her ultra-liberal progressivism and her big government socialism, but unfortunately for her, the big news today comes from Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. who has just endorsed Donald Trump.

In a sense, Mr. Kennedy simply erased Kamala’s DNC speech from the news, and Kennedy’s logic was stark and well-crafted. First, he said he was supporting President Trump because “the causes were free speech, the war in Ukraine, and the war on our children,” and then he criticized the Democratic Party for waging legal warfare against President Trump and himself.

Listen to this: “The DNC has waged an ongoing legal battle against both President Trump and me. Every time our volunteers turned in those massive boxes of signatures needed to get on the ballot, the DNC dragged us to court, state after state, attempting to erase their work and undermine the will of the voters who signed those petitions. They deployed judges aligned with the DNC to throw me and other candidates off the ballot and throw President Trump in jail.”

LARRY KUDLOW: TRUMP DEDICATED TO END BIDEN-HARRIS AFFORDABILITY CRISIS

He then proceeded to mock all the famous Democratic speakers at their convention, noting that they had mentioned Donald Trump 47 times on the first day alone: “Oh, who needs a policy when you can hate Trump?” He continues, “President Biden was only mentioned twice in four days,” But there is more to Kennedy than just frustration with the undemocratic Democratic Party.

Here’s Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on foreign policy: “We have pushed Russia into a disastrous alliance with China and Iran. We are closer to the brink of a nuclear exchange than at any time since 1962, and the neocons in the White House don’t seem to care one bit.”

He also put his two cents in for King Dollar. Listen: “Our moral authority and our economy are in ruins, and the war led to the rise of the BRICs, which now threaten to replace the dollar as the global reserve currency. This is a disaster of the first magnitude for our country.”

It appears that Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Trump have had several meetings in recent weeks and that Kennedy has discussed a number of issues where he has made common cause with President Trump.

Listen to this: “We intend to end the epidemic of childhood diseases, secure our borders, protect free speech, reverse the corporate takeover of our oversight agencies, and stop the U.S. intelligence community from propaganda, censorship and surveillance of Americans, and interference in our elections.”

With the RFK, Jr. news filtered out, the pay-to-play betting markets have moved 51% to 48% ahead of Mr. Trump over Ms. Harris. Not only has the Kennedy news stepped on and nearly buried all of the Kamala speech news from last night, but there wasn’t much serious policy that came out of that speech, although it was well delivered. Now she lied about Trump cutting Medicare and Social Security. He said a million times he wouldn’t.

She lied about Trump’s support for the Project 2025 agenda because he’s said a million times that he doesn’t know anything about it and doesn’t support it. She lied about Trump’s desire for a nationwide ban on abortion because he’s said a million times that he doesn’t support it and instead wants to turn the issue over to the states, as the Supreme Court requires — all the while supporting “Reaganesque” exclusions for rape, incest, and maternal health.

In fact, it is Ms. Harris who wants a nationwide abortion right that extends to the horrific late-term abortion. On the economic front, it was like Kamala saying, “I’m not Joe Biden, and I haven’t been in the White House for four years.” Wait a minute! You’re in the White House as a major player, and you support the Bidenomics tax-regulation-spend agenda, the war on fossil fuels, and the affordability crisis where prices have risen faster than wages because of your overspending.

She can’t hide it, and Trump will blame her for it during the debates, as he has in his many recent speeches and press conferences. And by the way, she has a tax agenda identical to Joe Biden’s, as was recently detailed in a major New York Times story.

She will kill wages and corporate competitiveness by raising corporate taxes, increasing the highest income tax rate for small businesses, raising the capital gains tax from 24% to 44%, and imposing the first ever wealth tax on unrealized capital gains. All of this reminds me of the late great Jack Kemp who often said that you can’t tax yourself to wealth, and he often added that you can’t have capitalism without capital, but Ms. Harris is no fan of capitalism, as we know.

She supports big-government socialism, though she didn’t come close to it in her speech. She’s also a cultural radical, pushing DEI affirmative action wherever possible and burying historic American values of merit. She promised a strong military, but the Biden-Harris budgets cut defense spending in real terms after inflation.

She said she would keep America strong, but she never mentioned the disaster that would ensue if it fled Afghanistan and left behind $85 billion in weapons to the radical terrorist Taliban.

Of course, she never mentioned Iran’s appeasement policy and Trump’s lifting of harsh oil sanctions, which had been used to finance the war against Israel and the US.

I am impressed with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. whose policy reasons for supporting Donald Trump are so much closer to what Americans really think. I don’t agree with everything Mr. Kennedy said, but we do agree on a number of issues and on Mr. Kennedy’s immediate and specific reasons for supporting Trump and opposing his undemocratic Democrats. That’s why he wins the news cycle. That’s why he gave Mr. Trump a very big advantage today to election. That’s the point.
