Las Vegas (KSNV) — TheLas Vegas Lights are one step closer to lifting the United Soccer League (USL) Championship trophy after a narrow victory in the first round of the playoffs.

The team defeated Sacramento Republic FC on penalty kicks after both teams went scoreless in regulation on Friday, November 1.

Coleman Gannon, Grayson Doody and Valentin Noël all successfully scored goals in penalties for the Lights, while goalkeeper Raiko Arozarena was able to block three of five shots.

The win marks the team’s first-ever playoff victory, as well as their first playoff appearance in franchise history.

The team now heads to Albuquerque where they will face New Mexico United in the USL semifinals on Saturday, November 9.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM at RGCU Field at Isotopes Park.
