Las Vegas (KSNV) — Sweater weather is slowly but surely coming to Las Vegas, with a drastic change coming.

Southwest winds of 15 to 40 km/h with some gusts around 30 km/h are possible on Wednesday afternoon.

Stronger winds are likely Thursday afternoon through Friday with some gusts around 60 mph, especially in our local mountains.

Much cooler temperatures arrive later this week and into the weekend as a strong cold front moves through the region.

Computer models are accelerating this system, leaving the area with only a small chance of some measurable rain and mountain snow.

The amount of precipitation varies from a trace to a few hundredths of an inch.

The last time Las Vegas received measurable rain was July 13.

Don’t be surprised if you see a few inches of snow at elevations above 8,000 feet in the Spring Mountains and Sheep Range.

Temperatures will drop into the mid 80s on Thursday and dip into the upper 60s for highs on Friday. The last time Las Vegas saw a high temperature in the 60s was on May 5.

Our storm system will gradually dissipate Saturday afternoon with highs in the lower 70s.

Sunday looks fantastic with highs in the mid 70s under sunny skies and light winds.

RED FLAG WARNING

A red flag warning will be issued from 11 a.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. for gusty southwesterly winds combined with low relative humidity values.

This means that any fire that starts can spread quickly, so be extra careful.
