Arsenal have signed Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for a fee of up to £42million, including bonuses.

The 22-year-old, who started in Italy’s three group matches at Euro 2024, has signed a five-year contract with Mikel Arteta’s side.

He immediately joined his new teammates in Philadelphia

Calafiori, who played one season at Bologna, can play as a centre-back or left-back. In the past he has also played on the left flank.

Last season he made 30 appearances for Bologna in Serie A, scoring two goals and providing five assists as the club finished fifth and secured a place in the Champions League.

Calafiori was named Serie A player of the month in May and has won all five of his caps for the Italian national team this summer.

Other teams linked with him included Juve and Chelsea.
