League required an individual piece of fallen metal on the catwalk to be addressed before Texans-Cowboys could continue

The large piece of metal debris that fell from the roof of AT&T Stadium and landed on the field was just the beginning, it turns out.

Via Lisa Salters of ESPN, another bit of metal feeling, land on a walkway. The NFL would not allow the Texans-Cowboys game to be played without the loose metal falling during the game. The NFL said the metal had to be moved, removed or secured.

The debris was manually bolted to a beam to ensure it would not fall during the game.

Everything about the situation is bizarre and indicates serious technical problems at the site. Someone could have been seriously injured, or worse. And the metal would never have been released without a serious design or operator error.

Technical problems are not new to Jerry Jones. In 2009, a storm caused the team’s indoor practice facility to collapse, killing people inside. Not even two years later, large chunks of ice flowed from the exterior roof to the ground below, injuring six people. It happened two days before the area was packed with people attending the Super Bowl.

It’s a good thing nothing bad happened tonight. But it begs this question. What else is wrong with the place that they don’t know about?
