LeBron James says checking in with son Bronny was a ‘moment I’ll never forget’

Unprecedented history was made Tuesday night in Los Angeles when LeBron James and his son Bronny took the NBA court together.

It was the first time in NBA history that a father-son duo were active NBA players at the same time, let alone on the same team.

Bronny, the 55th pick out of USC, entered the game for the first time with about four minutes left in the first half – with his father, who was entering his 22nd season in the NBA, right next to him.

“That moment, when we sat together at the scorer’s table and checked in together, it’s a moment I’ll never forget,” LeBron said. “No matter how old I get, no matter how my memory fades as I get older or whatever, I will never forget that moment.”

It was a brief moment on the floor between these two, but cheers rained through the Crypto.com Arena as they made history on Tuesday night.

There was also a moment when LeBron kicked a pass to Bronny for a three-pointer on the wing, but his first shot in the NBA went out. There was a collective sigh from the audience, who waited with bated breath for the first points from this duo.

Bronny grabbed a rebound in his three minutes on the floor.

“(I) tried not to focus on everything that was going on around me, and tried to focus on coming in as a newcomer and not messing up,” Bronny said. “But yeah, I really felt the energy, and I appreciate Laker Nation for showing the support for me and my dad.”

“I talked about it years and years ago, and for this moment, it’s pretty cool,” LeBron said. “I don’t know if it’s going to affect both of us for a minute, but if we can really sit back and take it in, it’s pretty crazy. … But at that point, we still had a task to do when we checked in. We didn’t try to make it a circus. We didn’t try to make it about the team.’

Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr., who were teammates with the MLB’s Seattle Mariners, were also in attendance.

It remains to be seen how long the younger Bronny will remain on the pro roster, as he could certainly use some time in the G League. He averaged fewer than five points per game at USC, although cardiac arrest last summer hampered his development.
