Before his first game as IU football coach in 1973, Lee Corso made quite an entrance, arriving at Memorial Stadium on a double-decker bus just before kickoff against Illinois.

On Saturday, back on campus for ESPN College GameDay’s visit, Corso was back on a double-decker bus. This time he was joined by the 1979 Holiday Bowl winning team, which was in town for a 45th anniversary. That team was the first Hoosiers team to win a bowl game.

Teammates showed off the jersey of QB Tim Clifford, who died earlier this week. Clifford, the 1979 Big Ten Most Valuable Player, led the Hoosiers to a 38-37 victory over previously undefeated BYU in the Holiday Bowl, passing for 171 yards and a touchdown.

Corso coached at IU from 1973-82 and compiled a 41-68-2 record with the Hoosiers. Since its inception in 1987, he has played a major role in ESPN’s flagship pregame show.
