LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) – Local soccer teams play under the spotlight Friday night.

But before you could see your favorite team win, you had to go through security, which led to long lines.

But a lot can change in a week.

FOX5 visited several high school football games in the valley to see how week two went. Several spectators said they saw noticeable improvements.

On Friday, CCSD sent out a message to parents and spectators advising them to be patient and arrive early to pass through security checkpoints.

Several parents tell FOX5 they were patient last week despite having to wait.

“I didn’t get in the second half. It was only two minutes left in the first half,” said William Robinson, whose son plays for Legacy High School. “It was all the way back to the school, the line.”

That wasn’t the case on Friday night. Most people said the same thing about the weapon detection system upgrades in games, explaining that the wait time was about 10 minutes and that it wasn’t that big of an inconvenience.

That wasn’t the case last week, according to parents who attended the football game at Legacy High School.

How long did they stand in line?

“About 45 minutes.” That’s a piece of cake compared to what Ashle Sanchez says other people have experienced.

“I know for sure one of my friends took an hour to get into the game, so this is much better,” Sanchez said.

And a lot safer, despite the potential inconveniences, say Sanchez and several others.

“You absolutely can’t put a price tag on safety,” Sanchez said.

“It’s always good because you never know what can happen. So I think it’s good to take precautions in advance,” said Mary Espinoza.

As for other measures that need to be taken in advance, such as arriving on time as suggested by CCSD, Annie Roberts says she understands the mandate.

“We were told to be there an hour before the game because security is going to be a lot tighter. I was prepared for that,” Roberts said. “So we got there early and I’m fine with that.”

CCSD once again reminds families to be patient when attending large-scale events on campus as football season gets underway.

FOX5 has asked CCSD if any changes have been made to make week two run more smoothly, but we have not heard back yet.
