A new chapter In the story of Linkin Park, there’s a new band among us. On Thursday, the band announced plans to embark on a headlining tour that kicks off on September 11 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, marking their first live performances since the death of frontman Chester Bennington in 2017. Touring without him also means the band will be joined by a new co-vocalist, with Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell tapping Dead Sara’s Emily Armstrong to fill the bill. Colin Brittain, songwriter and producer for G Flip, was also announced as the band’s new drummer.

Linkin Park also shared their first new music in seven years, “The Emptiness Machine,” which was premiered during a livestream performance to announce their new album, From scratchscheduled for release on November 15th.

The group’s upcoming activities From scratch The world tour includes stops in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul and Bogota. Pre-sale for the LP Underground fan club starts on September 6th and general sale starts on September 7th.

Linkin Park began teasing the announcement last week. On Instagram, the band’s official account shared a video of a countdown that starts at 100 hours and ticks away. They followed it up with another countdown, this time starting at zero seconds, going up to 9, and then immediately jumping back to 5 before the video completely scrambled. “It’s only a matter of time…” the caption read, along with a link to their website.

The site’s landing page featured its own message: “Be a part of something. Tune in.” The next teaser used the same statement in the caption, this time with an accompanying image that appeared to feature the logo Linkin Park began using in 2007.

Linkin Park’s last live performance was a tribute concert for Bennington in October 2017. It was held just over three months after the musician committed suicide. “I was on stage almost the entire time and singing most of the time,” Shinoda said. Rolling Stone in 2018. “I had to compartmentalize it and be out of my body for a while to be able to fully experience it. But I really loved how it turned out. The longest show we’ve done before was 90 minutes, and this was over three hours. I know it helped a lot of people who didn’t have any kind of memorial and it gave some people closure.”

Even around that time, the band was thinking about how to proceed. “(Chester) had such a specific tone and range — an incredible range. He could sing almost any style you wanted. That led to conversations about what to do next,” Shinoda said. “It became clear that you couldn’t just hire some idiot to come up there and sing with us, because he wouldn’t be able to play half the music.”
