9:49 – Another drive, another explosive passing play for the Indiana offense. On the second play, Kurtis Rourke got plenty of time and hit a wide-open Omar Cooper Jr. in the middle of the field after pulling away from Michigan CB Zeke Berry. Berry made up for it later in the drive with a pass breakup on third-and-12 from the Michigan 33. The Hoosiers went for it on fourth down, and good coverage led to another incompletion and turnover on downs.

But Davis Warren threw three consecutive incompletions that led to a punt. He had open receivers on second and third down, but he missed them. Michigan was also flagged for an ineligible man in the field, which was dismissed. The Hoosiers are one of the biggest surprises in college football under first-year coach Curt Cignetti, starting 9-0 for the first time in program history. He built his team largely from the transfer portal, adding 27 players from other schools, including 21 with at least three years of college experience.

That group includes quarterback Kurtis Rourke, a transfer from Ohio who has completed 73.3% of his passes for 2,204 yards, 19 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Due to his precision and the team’s balanced run-pass attack, Indiana’s offense ranks second in FBS scoring, averaging 46.6 points per game. Skeptics will point to the Hoosiers’ soft schedule thus far. They have won every match by double digits, but all their opponents have suffered at least four losses.

Meanwhile, Michigan, which has won 27 of the past 28 meetings against Indiana, is looking for its first signature win of the year.
