Locations in Lubbock hosting the Día de los Muertos-themed First Friday Art Trail

The Buddy Holly Center invites the community to participate in a special Día de los Muertos-themed First Friday Art Trail Friday in and around downtown Lubbock and other locations in the community.

First Friday Art Trail is a program of the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts. Every first Friday of the month, galleries, restaurants and businesses in locations across the city open for free to showcase local and regional visual and performance art.

The First Friday Art Trail promotes arts and outreach within the Lubbock community by providing opportunities to enjoy visual arts and entertainment. The Buddy Holly Center FFAT hours are Friday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at 1801 Crickets Ave. Admission is free and refreshments are available.

Please note that no outside food or drinks are allowed inside the venue.

The Buddy Holly Center’s flagship exhibition is Celebración, the annual display of artwork that explores the history and meaning behind the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

This exhibition features works by local and regional artists who were invited to express their interpretation of Día de los Muertos by honoring deceased ancestors, friends and relatives. Artists are not limited by choice of media or content, but are asked to focus on the unified theme of Mexico’s age-old ritual of commemorating the death of a loved one.

More than 40 artists contributed to this year’s very colorful exhibition. The celebration continues at the Fine Arts Gallery through November 17.
