A lucky person in Texas has received a life-changing sum of money. He has just won the jackpot of almost a billion dollars in the latest Mega Millions lottery.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, a ticket holder won the $800 million Mega Millions jackpot in Sugar Land, Texas, where it was purchased at a Murphy USA gas station, according to the Texas Lottery. The winning ticket had the numbers 1, 2, 16, 24, 66 and the golden Mega Ball 6.

The Sept. 10 drawing was the largest Mega Millions jackpot since the March 26 drawing, when $1.13 billion — the game’s fifth-largest jackpot prize — was won by an out-of-state player, the Texas Lottery said in a news release.

Additionally, the press release noted that the $800 million jackpot has an estimated cash value of $401.8 million — making it the seventh-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.

September is apparently a lucky month, lottery officials said in their press release. Since the game launched 22 years ago, there have been 22 Mega Millions winners in September. The most recent win came on Sept. 21, 2021, when an out-of-state player won a prize of $431 million.

The next Mega Millions drawing is on Friday, September 13, but the prize pool is significantly smaller in comparison, as the new jackpot is worth just $20 million.
