Man City News: Opinion – Fan writer on Erling Haaland’s advice to Mikel Arteta

And breathe.

Arsenal lose, Manchester City win and Pep Guardiola’s side – despite all the talk of being ‘shuffled’ by Mikel Arteta’s side at the Etihad Stadium last month – have managed their unbeaten start to another exciting season to maintain.

A famous man (Erling Haaland) once said: “Stay humble, eh” to the Arsenal manager’s face and this weekend’s results have proven to be the perfect summary of such an instruction.

Another not-so-famous man (myself) also said that a team’s ability to remain calm in the face of adversity would go a long way in deciding which team would emerge victorious over the course of 38 games this season .

Bournemouth beat Arsenal, who again had a man sent off, while City came from behind to beat Wolves and it was once again John Stones who came to the rescue.

As has been the case in countless performances in the first eight games, Manchester City were far from their best and their defensive unit was flawed in parts. But their tenacity to stick to their game plan and beat a ten-man Wolves backline paid off in the end, and the post-goal celebrations showed what it meant.

Guardiola and City know that games and results mean little at this stage of the season and even glancing at the Premier League table is an exercise in futility until around February.

β€œTo be honest, we’re not thinking about them (Arsenal),” Jack Grealish said after the win at Molineux. “Listen, if it was later in the season, it might be seen as a big weekend. But it’s October.”

That will be City’s attitude throughout a season that is guaranteed to have many more twists and turns. By focusing on themselves, sticking to their game plan, and most importantly, staying humble.

This is not a “rattle” Manchester City side. This is a serial-winning, trophy-producing machine that won’t give up until the very end – and certainly won’t get carried away easily.
