Man dies after alleged attack at Southwark tube station in London | Crime

A man has died after being allegedly attacked at a London Underground station, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

The victim, currently only identified as a 28-year-old man, had been in critical condition in hospital since Thursday and died Saturday evening surrounded by his family.

According to BTP, officers were called to Southwark station in south-east London at 9.44pm on Thursday following reports of an attack on the stairs.

Rakeem Miles, 23, from Southwark, was arrested the following morning and later charged with aggravated assault with malice aforethought.

He is in custody, according to BTP.

Detectives are now seeking to amend the charges to reflect the change in the victim’s condition.

Chief Investigator DI Paul Attwell said: “There is no place for violence on the rail network and I would urge anyone who has information and has not already spoken to us to get in touch.

“We have specialist family liaison officers supporting the victim’s family and my thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.”
