Martha Stewart pushes Drew Barrymore away mid-interview in a brutally awkward moment

It’s safe to say that Martha Stewart is not a fan of Drew Barrymore’s tendency to get touchy during interviews.

During Tuesday’s episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” the 83-year-old interior design mogul found herself pushing 49-year-old Barrymore away after the host invaded her space during an extremely awkward interaction.

The interview got out of hand after the actor teasingly asked Stewart if there was anything that made her feel “soft and gooey.”

Stewart initially seemed confused by the bizarre question and replied: “Soft and sticky… treatment.”

“Soft and sticky treatment?” Barrymore repeated as she slowly began to caress the housewife’s arm. “When you’re treated like a lady?”

“It’s nice,” Stewart said, as Barrymore continued to stroke her arm and back. The audience started to chuckle.

“If anyone comes in…” the “ET” actor continued, before a deadpan Stewart suddenly interrupted her.

She pushed Barrymore away as she declared, “You’re the wrong gender!”

“I know, I know,” the “Charlie’s Angels” alum complained with a sigh before falling back onto the couch dejectedly.

Social media users were left in stitches over the exchange between Barrymore and Stewart.

Barrymore has been criticized in the past for her overly affectionate interview style.

Last year, social media users complained about the “ticklish” way she caressed and held Oprah Winfrey’s hand during an interview in December. Despite the backlash, Winfrey later defended Barrymore, telling TMZ that she felt “not uncomfortable at all” and that she found their interaction “endearing.”

Barrymore was similarly criticized for becoming touchy in an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris just months later in May.

But according to Barrymore, she’s working on toning it down.

The talk show host told Entertainment Tonight that she will “try to practice physical distancing,” but warned that it is “not my strong point.”

Barrymore then joked that she knows her interview style is “not everyone’s favorite.”

“Do you know how hard the pandemic was for me?” she told the publication in August. “I was alone in a studio! I like being among people!”
