And despite going 3-for-8 overall in the men’s lead through two pre-season games, Tourigny said Friday after the morning skate at the Olympic Oval that his team can be even better.

He added that while Utah has yet to experience a true NHL penalty kill, he has been pleased with its decision-making and quick puck movement.

After all, it was forward Matias Maccelli’s quick shot that led to the second power-play goal against Los Angeles on Monday.

“We’ve been playing together for a while,” Maccelli said. “Killers from the other team don’t know what to expect. It’s easier to break them up.”

It’s exactly what Utah did on both power play units through the first two games, with the offseason addition of Mikhail Sergachev clearly making a difference through the veteran’s decision-making and shooting ability.

Forward Kevin Stenlund, who acts as the second defenseman on the second power-play unit, helped set up Lawson Crouse’s opening goal Monday night. Maccelli also said he is “excited to see when the real matches start.”

And while tonight’s game against Vegas may not be real yet, Maccelli added that he expects to “work on (his) own game” — and he said a trip to Park City could also be in the works for his next match. day off.
