Matthew Boyd ready to go for Guardians in ALCS Game 3: here’s how he performs in the lineup against the Yankees

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Growing up in Seattle and coaching 18U summer baseball, Matthew Boyd’s father blessed the left-handed Guardians with the perspective to see the game through a coach’s lens.

Boyd put himself in the batter’s shoes and tried to figure out what each player was doing, or looked at the guys on deck and thought about what they were seeing. It was a fun way for him to pick up little details and decipher the game’s strategies.

And then it was time to compete.

Boyd is looking forward to the game Thursday when he takes the ball for Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Yankees at Progressive Field. With the Guardians facing an 0-2 hole, Boyd knows what he and his teammates are up against. But the 10-year veteran was undeterred as he spoke to reporters Thursday.

“You’ve got to go out there and compete against them,” Boyd said. “The game will determine what else needs to be done. But it’s the postseason; you want to go against the best. You wouldn’t want it any other way.”
