Max Johnson’s debut as Tar Heel was cut short due to injury

In the third quarter of the UNC football program’s season opener at Minnesota, starting quarterback Max Johnson went down on a hit by a Minnesota defender after stepping back into the pocket on a crucial third-and-10. After the play, Johnson was on the ground, clutching what appeared to be his right leg.

Johnson was stretchered off the field and appeared to be in serious pain with just three minutes left in the third quarter. Backup quarterback Conner Harrell was called upon to take over when Johnson left the game.

Before his injury, Johnson completed 12 of 19 passes for 71 yards and one interception. Johnson also scored the Tar Heel’s first touchdown of the season on a three-yard rush in the second quarter.

It was an unpleasant and unexpected UNC football debut for the Texas A&M transfer, who will hopefully be back in action as soon as possible.

Stay tuned for the latest news and updates on Max Johnson’s injury status.
