Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday defended a top NYPD official for participating in a televised interview, in uniform, with far-right outlet Newsmax during former President Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday. Hizzoner suggested that the site is no different from other news sources.

The mayor made the comments during his weekly off-topic press conference at City Hall on Oct. 29, after a reporter asked him why NYPD Patrol Chief John Chell appeared in uniform on Newsmax during Trump’s MSG rally on Oct. 27. Adams said he saw nothing wrong with Chell’s actions, which were criticized by some observers and elected officials as crossing political lines.
