McDonald’s Holiday Pies are back, but so far only in a few southern cities

‘Tis the season of pie.

From the first apple harvest in early fall through December, Southerners embrace the fact that dessert is in season cake. (Who are we kidding? Our love of ice cream pies and fresh strawberry pies in the summer is nothing to joke about either!) But there’s something especially comforting about an apple pie in September, a pumpkin pie in October, a pecan pie. in November, and a made-up chess cake in December. You can exchange these to your heart’s content.

But there’s one more cake people don’t forget when the chill of the ‘ber’ months hits: McDonald’s Holiday Cakes. First introduced in 1999, these portable pies are a fan favorite and return around the holidays with the fast food chain’s signature pie crust, vanilla custard filling, icing and rainbow sprinkles. It’s a little piece of sugar cookie in cake form!
