Mentorship Update: What I’ve Learned from Being a Teacher for Just a Few Weeks

Although it has only been a few weeks, the teaching and guidance has already had an incredible impact on me.

  • 1. I have a much better sleep routine now. Even though it feels like I have less time, I feel like I can spend that time much better.
  • 2nd. It was very encouraging to hear other engineers give their opinions directly about my readiness and background. In my previous career I always felt a certain lag behind.
  • 3rd. Seeing and hearing mentees respond so positively to my work experience and background, and my comments on how they can best utilize their skills, is incredibly rewarding.
  • 4th. I feel like everything I do is preparing me for something to come. No idea what or how, but I keep getting the feeling that this new knowledge will come in handy.
  • 5th. New and much needed patience found. There has always been an innate desire to become an expert at something new overnight. Part of the reason for my stress-induced anxiety. This time around, however, a more structured regimen makes me feel paced rather than running single-mindedly and burning 50 yards.
  • 6th. Eating Better. Forced by a schedule, I am eating better, still a long way to go, of my weight and food quality goals, but I am definitely closer than I have been in a long time.

There is still a lot to change, I still procrastinate more than I should. I am still not as prepared as I should be. I still need to go to the gym. I still need to eat better.
