Martijn Kort And Meryl Streep are at the center of more than one unsolved mystery. That’s the one from season four Only murders in the buildingthe Hulu show that stars them together as love interests, but there’s also the haze of ambiguity surrounding Short and Streep’s real-life relationship, most recently sparked by yet another night out together.

The two septuagenarians apparently enjoyed dinner together at the famous Giorgio Baldi Italian restaurant in Santa Monica, California, on Wednesday evening. They were photographed entering and leaving the restaurant together, Short dressed in a gray suit with black sneakers and Streep in smart casual trousers and a pretty blouse, with mules to complete the look. Streep drove the pair in her car, while Short sat in the shotgun seat, smiling.

The two celebrated actors have been the subject of speculation for almost a year about whether they are more than friends/co-stars. The rumors intensified in January when the two looked cozy while attending the Golden Globes. They’ve shared meals, attended Broadway shows and even held hands on the red carpet during the season premiere festivities for Only murderswith their reps insisting all the time that they are just good friends and co-stars. Short himself even addressed the rumor while making an appearance Bill Maher‘s podcast at the end of January, in which he told the host: ‘We are not a couple. We’re just really good friends.”

Good friends who are having a great time together, like when they were seen laughing and bleaching in the front row at the Emmys in September.

Both Streep and Short were previously part of long marriages: Short is a widower; he was married to Nancy Dolman from 1980 until she died of ovarian cancer in 2010. Streep got married Don Gummer in 1978, and in October 2023, her representatives confirmed that “although they will always care for each other, they have chosen separate lives” and that the couple “had been separated for more than six years.”
