Metro Boomin and Future confront Drake Beef

Metro Boomin has revealed that a “personal issue” was the reason behind his and Drake’s feud, which resulted in several diss tracks and even Kendrick Lamar’s involvement.

TIDAL’s Elliott Wilson took to social media to share snippets of Metro and Future’s GQ cover story, in which the pair discussed the feud from their own perspectives. “Me and (Drake), we had a personal issue, and for the record, not about no girl or anything stupid like that,” he told GQ’s Frazier Tharpe, but did not go into detail about the alleged issue. “It was a personal matter that really hurt and disappointed me. But when you take out all the rap entertainment, you’re like, have you ever been really cool with someone, and you guys had a fight about something? It happens every day. It’s just regular s–t. This just happens to have an audience.

The producer further clarified that he and Future did not work together on their film WE DO NOT TRUST YOU album series with the intention of starting a war with Drizzy: “People really think we spent two years making two albums (to be) like: Yo, f*ck this dude. What kind of s*it is that?” Young Metro continued, “Do you really think we’re going to spend that much time, effort, and resources trying to reach someone on an album? Blowing budgets for two albums – going over budget? That’s some serious hatred. None of us rock like that.”

However, despite the personal issues between them, Boomin expressed his regret over some hurtful words about Drake that he shared publicly on X: “Now I had my moment online, which I regret. I should have been stronger than that. That was out of character for me. But at a certain point it’s like: I don’t rap, man, so you’re going to blame me on all these songs (…) I’m not going to stand in the booth, so I’m ready to look at you tweet.”

While Metro was more open about his side of the beef, Future played it cool. “There was beef?” he said, “I didn’t even know beef existed. I didn’t even know they had nothing going on. I’ve never been in any rap battles, man.” He was more verbal about being left out of the “big three” line in “First Person Shooter,” in which J. Cole claimed that only he, Drizzy and Kendrick Lamar occupied those spots. “I’m supposed to be the one who gets angry; I’m still confused about that,” Future replied. “No one cares what I think. That’s what was so stupid about that sh*t. To the point where I’m such a player that I haven’t even said anything to the public about how I feel about it. Why is everyone mad when he talks about me in my song? So y’all just forgot about me, I’m not part of this Big Three, I’m nobody in my song, man.
