ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan football team performed better in all facets in its 38-17 loss to the No. 1 Oregon Ducks Saturday (Nov. 2) at Michigan Stadium.

The Michigan offense (263 total yards) was buoyed by Colston Lovelandwho set a career high with 112 receiving yards over seven catches. Davis Warren threw a pair of touchdown passes (seven, six yards) on his 12-for-21, 164-yard day.

Maize and Blue’s defense allowed a total of 470 yards and conversions on 10 of 15 third downs. Ernest Hausmann led in tackles (10), while Wesley Walker put together a career-best effort, recording seven stops.

After falling behind by a touchdown within the first nine minutes of the game, the Wolverines turned the momentum their way with a special teams turnover. Joe Taylor forced a fumble on a Ducks punt return that was recovered by C.J. Charleston at the Oregon 28-yard line. Michigan took advantage of its starting position on the field with a seven-yard touchdown connection between Warren and an outstretched one Tyler Morris.

Oregon went on a run of 14 unanswered points (rushing touchdowns of one and six yards) in the second quarter of the game. UM added to its scoring with a 38-yard field goal through Dominic Zvadathat was set up by a pair of long catches by Loveland (18 and 36 yards) to bring the game’s score to 21-10. The Ducks were able to find the scoreboard again before heading into halftime on a 23-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

After forcing a three-and-out on the first drive of the second half, Michigan marched down the field for a 10-play scoring drive that ended with a six-yard touchdown pass from Warren to Peyton O’Leary. Loveland added two more long gains with receptions of 34 and 20 yards to set his career best record.

The Wolverines couldn’t find the scoreboard again, getting 17 points in the final 22 minutes of the game to close out the game with a final score of 38-17.

Michigan returns to the road next Saturday (Nov. 9) to take on Indiana in Bloomington, Indiana. Kick-off is set for 3:30 PM and the match will be broadcast live on CBS.
