Mike Francesa was stunned by Malik Nabers’ Travis Scott concert

Mike Francesa can’t believe how little control sports franchises have over their young players.

Star rookie Giants wideout Malik Nabers, who will miss his second straight game with a concussion, was spotted at a Travis Scott concert this week.

Francesa spoke on his BetRivers podcast before Nabers was officially ruled out of Sunday night’s game against the Bengals and was amazed at how Nabers could go to a loud, bright event when the Giants needed him back on the field.

“This is what I don’t understand – and it just shows you how poorly teams are treating their young stars now. He has a concussion. He has already missed one game. He failed the basic leaps of concussion protocol. What does he do during a concert? Francesa asked.

‘Now I don’t know which concert he went to. If you had mentioned the people, I probably would never have heard of them. That’s fine. That’s not the point. The point is this: you know two things at the concert. It’s loud and there are a lot of bright lights. Neither is good for healing a concussion.”

Francesa remained baffled that NFL teams wouldn’t be able to stop Nabers from going to this event.

“You try to get this guy available so he can win football games. He has already proven that he was worth being drafted where he was, and that he is on his way to stardom. We all agree on that. But it just goes to show how bad these teams are now at dealing with the behavior of their players. This man is injured! What does he do during a concert? Francesa asked.

“You can say, ‘His time is his.’ His time is not his time if he has a concussion! What is he doing outside?”

Giants head coach Brian Daboll discussed the matter with reporters on Friday and said it would be handled “in-house.”

On his podcast, Francesa acknowledged that there was no evidence that Nabers was partying or “imbibing” but reiterated that he should not have gone to a concert.

“It shows you over and over again that they can’t control these young players, they can’t get them to commit to the game. He should rest!” said Francesa.

“I don’t care what he normally does with his time. That’s his business. I hope he handles it smartly. But it is downright irresponsible and stupid for him to be at a concert. There’s no point.”
