Player props can be useful in a variety of ways, from directly utilizing them to measuring a player’s potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we’ll focus on the former.

Using our MLB forecasts powered by numberFire, here are some MLB player bets that look compelling via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

MLB Player Props

Justin Steele Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+126)

Justin Steele will pitch today against the Cincinnati Reds. The matchup has both positives and negatives as far as Steele is concerned.

On the negative side, it’s at the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park. On the positive side, the Reds have the 11th-best strikeout rate against lefties (22.4%) with the 12th-lowest wOBA (.306) in the split. Cincy has also been in a serious slump of late, with the 4th-worst wOBA (.276) over the past 14 days, along with the 5th-best K rate in that span (25.4%).

In my opinion the pros outweigh the cons and I think Steele can get six shots in this match.

Steele isn’t showing the same strikeout juice as he did last year, but he still has a 23.1% K-rate and a 10.1% swinging-strike rate. His workload is solid, too, as he’s thrown at least 94 pitches in three of his last four outings.

Steele is in good position against an offense that generally struggles against lefties and is currently in a slump. Our MLB projections call for him to strike out 5.6 total today, and the over is the side I’ll be playing.

Sean Manaea Under 17.5 outs (-114)

Lefty Jose Quintana kept the Minnesota Twins quiet last night, and fellow southpaw Sean Manaea will try to do the same today. It will be a tall order to follow that example.

Despite Quintana’s efforts on Monday, Minnesota has been very good against lefties in 2024. They’re fifth in wOBA in the split (.333). Plus, they now have Royce Lewis back, a terrific right-handed hitter.

Manaea is on track for his worst SIERA since 2018, posting a 4.40 rating through 106 innings. Righties are striking out against him just 21.7% of the time, while posting a juicy 46.2% fly-ball rate.

For this bet to pay out, Manaea must be drawn before he completes six innings. He has completed six frames only three times in his last 12 starts. We predict he will play 5.5 innings today.

Jose Altuve 2+ Total bases (-115)

The Houston Astros play an exciting home game against Bailey Falter.

The Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed pitcher owns a 4.88 SIERA and a 16.7% strikeout rate. Righties have him tagged for a 45.3% fly-ball rate while striking out just 15.7% of the time, which brings me to Jose Altuve.

Altuve is crushing lefties this campaign with a .376 wOBA and .482 slugging percentage. Overall, he’s much better at home (.383 wOBA) than away (.328). At home against lefties, he’s a whopping .403 wOBA.

Altuve has scored at least two bases in each of his last two games, with two doubles in one of those games, and he is in good position to continue that streak in a home game against Falter.
