“I was involved in three (goals), so I’m happy with that,” the Egyptian international continued.

“The manager wants us to press high and they made a few mistakes and we managed to capitalise on them. Yes, it (pressing high) was part of the plan.

“At half-time I managed to get two assists and I thought: ‘It’s my time to score!’ I wanted to score, I love scoring, it’s something I really like to do. No matter how much I score and the team wins, that’s the most important thing.”

Asked to analyse the changes in playing style that Slot is making, he said: “It’s not a big difference because with Jurgen (Klopp) we were like that for a few years, we tried to win the ball as high as possible. Then we managed to change our system and the way we play.

“It’s pretty much the same as seven years ago. The manager has his own system and we’re all trying to adapt to it.

“We used to have Jürgen for seven years, so you somehow get into the comfort zone. He always tried to push us out of our comfort zone, but when you have seven years with a manager, you somehow get into a comfort zone.

“But the new manager has his own style and he just wants everyone to adapt. He’s had a few meetings with the senior group and told (us): ‘You have to be an example to the younger players and you have to work hard.’

“I think we are following his system well and hopefully we will continue like this.”
