‘Moana 2’ star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson wants moviegoers to sing in theaters

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson looks at the recent discourse surrounding singing in theaters during musical films – and the Moana 2 star tells fans to “sing!”

While walking the red carpet at the Moana 2 During the British premiere, Johnson told BBC News that he believes moviegoers should be able to sing if they want to. “You paid your hard-earned money for a ticket, you went to a musical, and you love it. Sing,” he said. “Especially if you like music, that’s the fun part.”

Johnson, reprising his own Moana character, the demigod Maui, shares his opinion in the new musical sequel to the animated film, just after the recent controversy surrounding the opening of the Bad movie adaptation and AMC, the world’s largest theater chain, telling customers that singing is not allowed in theaters.

The company went viral for posting signs advising against singing along during Bad impressions. ‘By seeing our guests Badwe ask that you allow everyone to enjoy the movie theater experience,” the signs read. “Please don’t sing during the show.”

A Badtheme ad also plays before the movie that reads: “At AMC Theaters, silence is golden. No talking. No texting. No singing. No whining. No flirting. And absolutely no swearing. Enjoy the magic of movies .”

To combat strict no-singing rules, about 1,000 theaters across the country will host “interactive screenings” of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s big screen performance. Bad adaptation begins on December 25 for those who want to sing along to the musical, Variety reported earlier this week.

The topic of whether singing should be allowed in theaters is not new. Last October, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film debuted in theaters and people shared videos on social media of screenings filled with fans singing along, shining their phone flashlights and dancing in the aisles. As a result, many posts went viral with complaints about cinema etiquette. However, Taylor Swift herself wrote on Instagram: “Era’s clothes, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing are encouraged.”

AMC Theaters also released a statement at the time Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film that stated, “We encourage dancing and singing during this concert film event, but please do not dance in our seats or block other guests from viewing, walking safely, or leaving the venue.”
