It has become a tradition for presidential candidates to attend the event and deliver a speech that resembles a roast with a hint of self-deprecating humor. While Harris was absent from the dinner, she submitted a video with the help of Mary Katherine (Molly Shannon’s SNL character), who advised her on how to best make an impression on the Catholic community. ‘Don’t lie. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor,” Shannon shared in his character. “Well, mostly your neighbor’s election results,” Harris quipped back, in keeping with the toasting theme. Shannon followed up with another important rule: “Don’t say anything negative about Catholics,” but Trump was still fair game as he had some nice words for Harris for not showing up. But at least Harris can recruit lovers SNL characters; maybe she can get the Lonely Island to resume their story Hot rod characters next.
