Monday brings sunshine, Tuesday brings rain

Low pressure will move across northern southern New England on Tuesday. As a frontal system moves through, showers will move across the region starting Tuesday morning. Those of you who commute early will have dry roads, but it looks like showers will move into the area sometime this morning. Temperatures will again be in the low 50s.

I expect somewhere between three and a half inches of rain across the region. There may be a few heavier showers, hence the range. Overall, this is not a major weather system. Most of the rain will fall between 9am and 5pm, although a few showers may linger into the early evening hours on Tuesday.

Tuesday is a big travel day and for those of you heading west, the rain will end a little earlier. The good news is that due to the cloud cover, the glare of the sun will not be a factor. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving are among the busiest travel days this week, and the agency expects to screen more than 2.8 million people at U.S. airports on Tuesday.

Wednesday is expected to be a sunny day, with temperatures between 45 and 50 degrees from the hills of Worcester to downtown Boston. Sun glare will be a factor later in the afternoon as you travel west and south for those of you traveling.

Thanksgiving

A new weather system is approaching for Thanksgiving Day. It currently appears that any precipitation will hold off until after Thursday morning’s football games. We will see an area of low pressure develop to the south and then move towards southern New England.

The exact path and strength of this potential nor’easter will determine how much rain we get and when it will start and end, but I think you should expect a wet second half of Thursday and especially Thursday night. If the storm gets stronger, there may be strong winds on Thursday afternoon and night.

The storm system should leave the area Friday with clearing skies and colder temperatures. This will continue for the rest of the holiday weekend.

Southern New England: Look for sunny skies to start the work week this afternoon with temperatures within a few degrees above 50 degrees Celsius. Tuesday morning there will be showers with temperatures around 50 degrees.

Western Mass: Today sunny with temperatures around 40 degrees. Expect rain showers early Tuesday that will last most of the day with temperatures in the low 40s.

Cape and Islands: Today sunny with temperatures around 40 degrees. A frontal system will bring clouds and some showers from mid to late morning on Tuesday. Temperatures will be in the low 50s.

Northern New England: Monday will be cool and dry and this afternoon temperatures could be in the low 40s. There will be a cold rain shower on Tuesday with temperatures in the 30s to mid 40s.
