More than 1,000 New Seasons Market employees will strike Wednesday after failed labor negotiations

More than 1,000 workers at 11 unionized New Seasons Market stores will go on strike Wednesday.

The union says it has tried to reach an agreement with the company. In a statement, the union wrote: “We have done our utmost to provide the company with numerous ways to avoid a strike by ending their unfair labor practices and offering our members a deal that meets their needs , but they refuse. We hope the company realizes the urgency and importance of providing a meaningful economic response, and acts in good faith, so we can avert a strike.”

The strike will take place during regular store hours between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. and employees are asking customers to boycott the stores as well.

A company spokesperson responded to the union’s claims, saying: “New Seasons Market staff are the heart of our business and we respect the NSLU’s right to engage in this protected activity, which is common during collective negotiations. We remain focused on minimizing disruption so we can provide our customers with the service they expect from New Seasons Market.”

New Seasons stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day and reopen on Black Friday. No other strikes are planned. The two parties will return to the negotiating table on Monday, December 2.
