KALAMAZOO, Michigan — It appears that a severe thunderstorm warning will be issued for parts of western Michigan soon.

While in some cities it already feels 38 degrees or warmer.

More than 132,000 energy customers in Michigan were without power as of 5 p.m. after storms swept across the Great Lakes state, according to Consumers Energy’s outage map.

The Storm Prediction Center maintains a 15% risk of both damaging winds and large hail across West Michigan through early Wednesday morning. An isolated tornado cannot be missed.

At the same time, early afternoon activity in Wisconsin has already prompted multiple severe thunderstorm warnings with wind gusts up to 60 mph (97 km/h) and pea-sized hail.

This is the latest text from the Storm Prediction Center: “If storms over Lake Michigan can remain under control, warmed air over western lower Michigan could produce strong wind gusts.”

Please be aware that severe wind gusts could reach speeds of over 55 mph (88 km/h) and could down trees and power lines.

West Michigan also suffers from extreme heat and humidity.

Heat warnings and extreme heat warnings are in effect until late tonight. Feels like temperatures could reach 43 degrees Celsius.

The best way to beat the heat is to stay indoors in an air-conditioned environment, hydrate, and limit your time outdoors if possible. Don’t forget your pets.

Excessive heat often affects pregnant women, newborns, young children, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses.

Ask your friends, neighbors, and family members how they are doing, especially if they fall into one of these categories.
