Nancy Mace proposes a ban on transgender people using Capitol Hill restrooms

South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace has introduced a proposal to ban transgender people from using Capitol Hill restrooms that match their gender identity.
“A member, delegate, resident, officer, or employee of the House shall not use single-sex facilities (including a restroom, locker room, or locker room) in the Capitol or House office buildings other than those consistent with biological gender of such a person,” Mace’s proposal states.
“Biological men do not belong in women’s private spaces. Period. Period. End of story,” Mace wrote on X.

The proposal specifically targets Sarah McBride, a Delaware Democrat who will make history as the first transgender member of Congress when she takes office in January.
Under the bill, the Sergeant-at-Arms would be responsible for implementing these restrictions.
While Mace says the ban is essential and argues that allowing “biological males into same-sex facilities … jeopardizes the safety and dignity of female members, officers and staff of the House of Representatives,” research shows that there is no factual basis for such restrictions. .
Furthermore, there is no evidence that transgender people who use facilities that match their gender identity pose safety risks.
When confronted online about the bill against McBride, Mace confirmed, “Yes, and then some.”
She added: “Sarah McBride also doesn’t get a say in this. I will always protect women and girls.”
When Capitol Hill reporters questioned the sergeant-at-arms’ enforcement methods, Mace responded that “biological males should not be in women’s private spaces.” End of story.’
“This is about real women and women’s rights and the far left, the radical left, they want to erase women and women’s rights.”
In response, McBride characterized the bill as “a blatant attempt by far-right extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing.”
“We should focus on reducing the costs of housing, health care and child care, not on creating culture wars. The people of Delaware sent me here to make the American dream more affordable and accessible, and that is what I am focused on,” she wrote. on X.
