National Hurricane Center designates potential Tropical Cyclone Nineteen in the Caribbean Sea

The broad low-pressure area in the Caribbean that we have been watching continues to have a high chance of tropical formation as unorganized showers and storms continue to show signs of organization. Therefore, the National Hurricane Center has designated this area as potential Tropical Cyclone Nineteen as the chances increase.

The system is expected to become a tropical storm within about a day and will likely produce tropical storm or hurricane conditions in areas of Central America within the next 36 to 48 hours.

The NHC notes in their latest discussion that “there continues to be greater than normal uncertainty in the intensity forecast due to potential land interactions. If the system remains above water it could be stronger than indicated below, but if it moves over Central America it would weaken.”

That said, it is also too early to determine what impact the system could have on parts of the eastern Gulf of Mexico, including Florida, the Florida Keys and Cuba, by the middle of next week once the system enters the Gulf.

We will continue to monitor the weather forecasts and keep you informed.
