NATO allies are planning a plan to counter Donald Trump against Ukraine

NATO allies plan to ensure that newly-elected President Donald Trump cannot cut US support to Ukraine.

Sir Keir Starmer, the British Prime Minister, and Emmanuel Macron, the French President will meet on Monday to discuss whether President Joe Biden can be persuaded to allow Ukraine to fire Storm Shadow missiles at Russia, British newspaper The Telegraph has reported.

Starmer, who attended a ceremony in Paris to mark the 106th anniversary of the 1918 armistice, took part in a bilateral meeting with the French president ahead of the commemorations, where they were said to hold talks on foreign policy issues, including both the Ukraine and Gaza conflicts.

The outcome of the 2024 presidential election and Trump’s second term could have major consequences for Ukraine’s future. The newly elected president has been critical of the amount of aid the US is giving to Ukraine, and previously called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ‘the biggest salesman on earth’.

British Defense Secretary John Healey said Monday that he expects the Americans to support Ukraine “for as long as it takes to overcome Vladimir Putin’s invasion.” Healey’s comments highlighted the support amid concerns about the conflict.

Ukraine continues to battle Russia, which launched a large-scale offensive in the country in 2022. The US is steadfast in its support for Ukraine, having provided an estimated $106 billion in aid directly to the government in Kiev, the report said. Council on Foreign Relations.

With the war in Ukraine in a bloody stalemate and humanitarian costs continuing to rise, the future of US aid to Ukraine looks bleak as Biden’s term enters its final months and Trump is set to return to the White House.

According to The Telegraphleaders will discuss whether Biden can be persuaded to allow Ukraine to fire Storm Shadow missiles at Russia, and the outlet reported that there is hope Biden will sign this measure.

World leaders are reportedly trying to assess how Trump plans to change US policy toward Ukraine. During his campaign, Trump has made it clear that he is committed to an end to American involvement in foreign conflicts.

The president-elect declared he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine within a day, a comment that raised eyebrows on both sides of the conflict. Zelensky has said he wants to repel Russia’s invasion and retake areas including Crimea, which has been annexed by Moscow since 2014. These scenarios could be unlikely during a second Trump term.

Fears about Trump’s plan for Ukraine increased after it was confirmed that neither Mike Pompeo nor Nikki Haley, both of whom are pro-Ukraine, would get positions in Trump’s Cabinet, which could signal a shift for Trump’s foreign policy Trump in his second term.

On Saturday, Donald Trump Jr., the president-elect’s eldest son, posted a video on Instagram in which he appeared to mock Zelensky. The clip, originally shared by Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, shows Zelensky frowning as he stands next to newly elected President Trump. The text overlay reads: “POV: You are 38 days away from losing your benefits.”

During the visit, Starmer met with new French Prime Minister Michael Barnier. In a post on of the challenges ahead.”

At a summit in Budapest last week, Macron warned that “we should not delegate our security to America forever.”

The French president said: “The world is made up of herbivores and carnivores. If we decide to remain herbivores, the carnivores will win and we will be a market for them.”
