NBC’s Mike Tirico is calling the Eagles-Rams game after suffering an Achilles injury last Monday

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – NFL players are done for the season when they suffer an Achilles injury.

In the case of a football announcer, they just carry on.

NBC’s Mike Tirico called Sunday night’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams despite tearing his left Achilles tendon last Monday.

Tirico — who hasn’t missed an assignment during his career — said after Philadelphia’s 37-20 win that he missed a step while walking to his home in Michigan.

“Once you tear your Achilles tendon you are in immediate pain and then it is difficult to get around for a while. Our group was great and tried to make the booth as comfortable as possible,” said Tirico.

During the third quarter, Tirico could be seen in the broadcast booth with his left foot in a boot and his leg on a box.

Coincidentally, Cris Collinsworth mentioned Tirico’s injury after a promo for a medical sitcom that aired on NBC.

Tirico used a knee scooter after leaving the cabin and when he went to the elevator.

While Sunday night’s match took place in the comfortable surroundings of Southern California, Tirico’s next match could be more challenging. He still has a short week before he calls the Thanksgiving evening game between the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers from chilly Lambeau Field.
