Nebraska Football is drafting four-star LB Dawson Merritt from Alabama

Less than a week ago, a Kansas recruit opted to transfer to the Jayhawks. This time, a prospect from the Sunflower State decided to join Nebraska football.

Four-star linebacker Dawson Merritt has reversed his commitment to the Huskers. He had been committed to Alabama since June.

From Blue Valley High School in Stilwell, Kansas, Merritt is rated as the No. 4 player in Kansas and the 116th best prospect in the country by the 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 13 linebacker overall.

At 6-3 and 215 pounds, Merritt was scheduled to participate in Kalen DebBoar’s first full recruiting class in Tuscaloosa. Instead, he will join Matt Rhule’s second full class in Lincoln.

Nebraska now has 20 commits for the class of 2025, with Merritt the highest-ranked among them. Other linebackers in the pack include four-star Christian Jones and three-star Pierce Mooberry.
