Kendrick Lamar has surprisingly released his new album “GNX”, featuring contributions from Jack Antonoff, SZA and Kamasi Washington.

The 12-track “GNX” contains relatively few features, with the exception of two songs – “Luther” and “Gloria” – that feature SZA. The album includes “Heart Pt. 6,” the latest in his ongoing series, which Drake used as the title for one of his diss tracks in the back-and-forth between the rappers earlier this year.

Rumors had been circulating for months that Lamar was hard at work on a new project. Earlier this week, DJ Snake suggested that Mustard had contributed to four or five of the songs, and there was a surprise appearance from Taylor Swift, although it appears she is not participating in the project.

Lamar also references his controversial Super Bowl Halftime Show performance on the opening track “Wacced Out Murals,” a performance that many on the internet complained should have gone to Lil Wayne because it took place in his native New Orleans. “I bumped into ‘Tha Carter 3’, I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I guess my hard work let Lil Wayne down,” he raps. “I have the Super Bowl and Nas is the only one congratulating me, all these ns are excited, I’m just happy it’s on their faces”

“GNX” comes before the end of a huge year for Lamar. He made headlines this spring for his feud with Drake and released a string of singles including “Euphoria,” “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us,” the latter of which became the only song to have a significant impact on the charts . . Earlier this month it was announced that the song had been nominated for song of the year and record of the year.
